What is music therapy?

Music therapy is the use of music in therapeutic interventions to address musical and non-musical goals.

I provide music therapy in a 1:1 or small group setting in person at my office in Worthington, Ohio.

I have experience working with a wide range of diagnoses including people with developmental disabilities, psychiatric diagnoses, aging populations, chemical dependency, behavioral disorders, brain injury, and auto-immune disorders.

Interventions commonly include the use of piano, guitar, ukulele, drums, auxiliary percussion instruments, scarves, sensory tools, singing, recorded music, art, playlist curation, coping skill education, movement activities, adapted lessons, songwriting, relaxation techniques, breathing exercises, lyric analysis, counseling, and more.

The nature of all therapeutic interventions is that it is a marathon and not a sprint to find growth and healing. When starting music therapy services with me I will explain that you should expect to try the services for at least 6 months and you may not see desired progress for several months of consistent sessions. This is normal and true for those who are neurodivergent or not, therapy is not a fast process. Measured growth takes consistent attendance and time.
